Recently, we’ve obtained a batch of orchid species from growers abroad.  The varieties that were brought in includes Dendrobium Suzukii, Dendrobium Dixanthum, Dendrobium Moschatum, Arachnis Annamensis, Ascocentrum christensonianum. Still trying to identify one that seem to belong to Aerides family but have erected racemose instead of hanging.

Hybridization have been done between Dendrobium Suzukii and a few varieties of Dendrobiums that we grow and seedpod development is underway. We’ve also planned to hybridize Arachnis Annamensis with Renathera Kalsom and some other Ascocendas.

A species of resilient cypripedium

This year, the recession as well as heat wave (due to change in climate) have affected growers worldwide. In a way, the heat wave increased production rates in some countries like taiwan, while caused substantial damages to crops in the lower hemisphere. In the southern hemisphere, some nurseries had their plants burnt by the searing heat and wind. Here in Singapore, we experienced some high temperature of up to 36°C just a couple of weeks ago and some strong winds that damaged our nursery nettings. Well repairs are in process and almost completed. The flowering season of orchids are likely to be affected too.

temperate orchids offered by suppliers all over. There some really nice orchids, like the one on the left, that I’ve never seen in Singapore, coming from taiwanese suppliers.  To date, only the Cymbidiums catalogue‘s ready. The file is almost 30mb in size due to the amount of pictures inside, so do be patient downloading it.

This is the third time that these plants have flowered and this season, there’s one with a magnificent fourteen stalks of flowers, one stalk just withered but with thirteen stalks, it still just as spectacular! =) We’ve been growing these species for more than three years and each time it flowers, the number of flower stalks increases as the plant matures.

We will be making some seedpods and selling some of it this time to locals in Singapore. Do take note that seedpod formation takes a period of 3 – 6 months.

We house a varieties of colours for this vanda in low quantities. From light green, to yellow to brown. This vanda has a thick jasmine fragrance that can get very strong in hot afternoons. Its flowers last for longer periods if placed indoors than outdoors as its fragrance frequently attract pollinating insects/pest.

This hybrid was registered by S.Janchidfar on the 5th June, 2002. There are a few variation of this mutation’s green stripes and also known to be called as the ‘Lollipop’ orchid.  This variety is more sought by hobbist and for its cut flowers than the plant as it tends to be easily diseased by tobacco mosaic virus resulting in black spotted leaves.

This hybrid was registered by P.Buranaraktham from thailandon the 31st July, 1996. This hybrid has rather seasonal flowers and can flower up to 8 spikes per plant during its flowering season on mature plants. Vegetative growth of plant is rather fast but plants are rather big in size. Highly suitable for outdoor display.
